Born in Romania and raised in North Vancouver, Andra has been skiing since she was 2 years old and competing since the age of 9. She raced in alpine disciplines until she was 18 when she decided to quit skiing in order to pursue a marketing degree at Capilano University. In 2007 after successfully completing her BBA, she was given the opportunity to try out for the first ever Canadian Skicross team. When she just missed a spot on the team, she made the decision to represent Romania, in hopes of competing at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. With no financial support from her federation and no coaching, Andra didn’t let anything stand in her way of making this dream a reality.
In February 2010, Andra’s hard work and determination paid off when she competed as one of the top 35 women in the world in the first ever Olympic Skicross event at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver. With one of the best runs of her career, Andra was on a sure road to achieve her best career result when at the last moment in the heat of all the excitement, she dramatically crashed through the finish line, breaking her tibia plateau in her left knee. During the summer months, Andra has spent her time rehabilitating her knee and impatiently waiting to be back on skis competing, in hopes of making the Sochi 2014 Games…the happy ending to her racing career. Spending a day on the slopes with Andra as she shares her stories, ski tips and friendly personality is one you will truly enjoy.
