Canadian Tour Events Cancelled in Mexico

We are cancelled for this week as well.  I found out on the range, warming up to go play my final practice round.  The WHO has raised the pandemic alert to level five, potentially causing travel and border restrictions.

In San Luis Potosi the major North American airlines are suspending service as of Friday.  We hear rumors of potential quarantine upon re-entry to the US or Canada which is something none of us can risk.  So all tour players are headed home.  I’m on a flight right now from Mexico City to Los Angeles, where I will overnight and fly to Vancouver first thing tomorrow.

Wow, what a day!  From preparing to play tomorrow, to the shock of hearing the event is cancelled, to the mad scramble of trying to make travel plans to get out of Mexico.   (Laura at FCM Travel is awesome and I highly recommend her to any potential business travelers out there.)  I’m really just starting to catch my breath and realize I haven’t eaten properly  since lunch.  Uh oh, only two more hours then a lengthy over night lay over, this will not be a fun evening.

Having watched things in the media escalate over the last week, it is not surprising our events have been cancelled.  I guess it would have been nice to have known in advance the likelihood of canceling.  This way we all could have gone home and saved a large amount of expense but everyone on the Canadian Tour is chasing the dream and as such we all want to play.

So my Mexican trip for this year is over, almost before it really began.  Hopefully things will be re-scheduled for the fall but for now I can’t wait to get home into some normal clothes and familiar food.  As for what’s next.  Well the Tour will have a bit of a break and will start up with two BC events; The Times Colonist in Victoria and the City of Surrey Classic in South Surrey in early June.  I can’t wait to for these events, partly because they are near home and it’s a chance for friends and family to come along and be part of this but also because the Canadian Tour is all about our Canadian events.  The fans, media, and  great golf courses all create a sense of accomplishment and belief in what it is to be a professional golfer.

For the mean time, I’ll keep busy with lots of practice, fixing that wonky putter, hopefully some fundraising (any ideas?) and then a few local VGT events and US Open qualifying.

From high above San Diego – ish
